Well, i know by experience that student discounts tend to be offered at teh college/university level
for a variety of reasons..
It is assumed that those not at college/university are not old enough to buy the software. WAIT
WAIT..there is a law which says anyone under i believe the age of 18 can return a purchase for
ALMOST ANY REASON even wihtout a receipt and even if they break the goods in question. I loved takin
business law...Most people are 18 by the end of their first year in college.
Therefore companies don;t want to deal with selling discounted software to those under the
college/university level. The company is not NewTek but the academic distributor. NewTek has to use
an academic distributor because it is this distributor from whom the university/college stores buy
from and only from distributors..i believe ther eis some rule that states the affiliated stores
of the universty must buy from an academic distributor..i know our university will only order
stuff from one specific distributor..kinda lame....it is the distributor which decides to sell to
junior high or high schools..NewTek can not possibly maintain the network with so many schools so,
they must use an academic distributor.
second..the products are sold via a student bookstore/computer store...how many high school
bookstores carry software? I went to University High. Geez even with the name University High, we
still didn;t get student discounts on anything except for pot, acid, speed, firearms and spraycans!
I AM NOT TYPING THIS TO MAKE non-university students feel bad..I OFFER A SOLUTION around the
system..learn to manipulate the system and make it work for you...try to find a local university or
college and see if they can special order lightwave 5.0 from the distributor that newtek uses. If
they can and will order LightWave then you ask one of your older brother/sisters to buy it for you.
You give them the mulla..they show their student ID to the university..and walla..you get LW 5.0..of
course YOU do not ask the university bookstore/computer store..have your brother or sister do
it...they won;t take a non-university person seriously.
BE CAREFUL!! Although many think student discounted software is supposed to be cheaper than regular
venues..this is not always true. Check the price first!
